On 6th to 10th December 2018, Ayiera Initiative organisation took 30 of its participants to Mombasa for a series of football matches/tournament and educational trip.
The Exchange Program is under one of the empowerment programs conducted by Ayiera Initiative.During the Exchange program, Ayiera Initiative participants were engaged in competitive football matches/tournament against various teams based in Mombasa.
A chance to enjoy and learn
Besides competing in football, the children also visited Borstal Instituiton – Shimo La Tewa which is one of the two correctional facilities for children in Kenya. This trip was aimed at enlightening children from Korogocho to see first-hand the living conditions in a correctional facility and learn on the crimes that could lead one to be placed in a correctional facility, Ayiera Initiative did this in a bid to help shape these participants and children in general to become responsible people in the community and those who are actively involved in the growth of society they come from as result contributing positively on the development of the country.
It was all fun and excitement at the beach
The children also enjoyed themselves by visiting various monumental sites including, Jomo Kenyatta Public beach, Likoni Ferry, Uhuru garden and the famous Mombasa tusks.
The trip brought excitement, fun and enjoyment to the kids.
This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the kids because they have never been in Mombasa and some of them have never even stepped out of Korogocho slum.
